You’re too busy NOT to plan

Dear Sam Reader,

1. A quick word from Zach

You may feel too busy to stop and plan, but that’s exactly why you need to.

When you begin the day in reaction mode, urgency gets to decide what matters. A simple 10-15 minute startup routine can help you take back control before the day gets hijacked.

2. Something worth reading

Free to Focus by Michael Hyatt is a practical guide to getting clear on what matters most and building your work around it.

It supports the same idea behind this issue: focus doesn’t happen by accident. You have to create the space and rhythm for it.

3. Something worth thinking about

The plans of the diligent lead to profit as surely as haste leads to poverty.

~ Proverbs 21:5

Hurry can feel productive, but it often keeps you from doing the work that matters most. Diligent planning is not wasted time. It’s one of the ways you lead with wisdom.

4. Something worth trying

Before you check email, voicemail, text messages, or take a call tomorrow morning, spend 10-15 minutes deciding what you will do on purpose.

I created the Workday Startup Routine to help you build that habit. Use mine as a starting point, make it your own, and commit to it for the next 10 business days.

Win the morning to win the day.

That's all for now.

To thriving,

Zach Wise

Two relay runners working together to complete a baton handoff

Hello Reader, 1. A quick word from Zach Have you ever delegated something to a team member, only to be disappointed when they couldn’t immediately do it as well as you did? Before you decide delegation doesn’t work, there’s a harder question worth asking: Did you delegate it, or did you abdicate it? This week, we’re talking about why a good handoff looks less like throwing something over the fence and more like passing a baton in a relay race. 2. Something worth listening to If the...

Hey Reader, 1. A quick word from Zach You want your team to think, solve problems, and take ownership without waiting for you to tell them every next step. But before you blame them for lacking initiative, take a hard look at what you’ve actually been giving them to own. This week, I want to show you the difference between delegating a task and delegating a result. 2. Something worth listening to If you want to go a little deeper on this idea, there’s an older EntreLeadership Podcast episode...

two small-business professionals reviewing a project together during a clear delegation handoff.

Hi Reader, 1. A quick word from Zach If you’ve ever tried delegating only to have the work come back wrong, incomplete, or late, then you know it can be tempting to decide your team just can’t handle more responsibility. But before you blame the person you delegated to, there’s another question worth asking: How clear was the handoff? 2. Something worth reading Dave Ramsey’s mini-book, Delegation is a practical companion to this issue because it reinforces the idea that delegation is a...
